What happens when the music of Bach, the Beatles, and jazz legend Keith Jarrett meets the artistry of a world-class classical guitarist? In the hands of Yuri Liberzon, the result is a musical journey that crosses centuries, styles, and traditions.
Born in Russia and raised in Israel, Yuri brings a remarkable international background and a fresh musical perspective to the concert stage. Praised for his dazzling technique and expressive playing, he combines the precision of classical guitar with a passion for exploring music well beyond its traditional boundaries.
His musical journey has taken him from Israel to some of America's most prestigious conservatories and concert halls. After studying with renowned guitarist Yaron Hasson in Israel, Yuri came to the United States to study with legendary guitarist Manuel Barrueco at the Peabody Conservatory. He later earned his master's degree at Yale University, studying with Benjamin Verdery. He received full scholarships at both institutions.
Yuri has performed extensively throughout the United States and internationally, appearing at venues including New York's 92nd Street Y, San Francisco's Legion of Honor, and the acclaimed Marlow Guitar Series. His musical collaborations have ranged from intimate chamber music performances to appearances with symphony orchestras, including the Diablo Symphony Orchestra and Tahoe Symphony Orchestra.
His adventurous musical spirit is especially evident in his recordings. His debut album, Ascension, brings together an eclectic mix of music from Bach to the Beatles and Keith Jarrett. His second album, ¡Acentuado!, explores the irresistible rhythms and passionate melodies of Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla, in collaboration with flutist Josué Casillas. Both recordings have earned enthusiastic critical recognition.
Beyond the concert stage, Yuri is an accomplished arranger and dedicated teacher whose students have gone on to study at some of America's finest music conservatories. His arrangements of music by Bach and Scarlatti have also been published internationally.
Whether interpreting a centuries-old masterpiece or bringing a fresh voice to more contemporary music, Yuri Liberzon approaches the guitar with curiosity, imagination, and exceptional musicianship. His performances offer audiences an opportunity to discover just how expressive and versatile six strings can be.
Mr. Liberzon plays on guitars by Gil Carnal and Robert Ruck with Royal Classics strings.
